Compare Medigap Plans and Benefits Available in Allentown, Bethlehem, Whitehall, Easton, and Coopersburg & Surrounding Areas

If you’re concerned about out-of-pocket Medicare expenses, a Medicare Supplement Insurance policy commonly known as a Medigap Plan can help bridge the gap between what Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers and what you owe in medical costs.

At Main Street Financial Partners, we help clients across Allentown, Bethlehem, Whitehall, Easton, Coopersburg, Saucon Valley, and Center Valley, as well as surrounding areas throughout the Lehigh Valley , Northampton County, Bucks County, Montgomery County, and Berks County explore Medigap options, compare pricing, and enroll in plans that fit their healthcare needs and budget.

What Is Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)?

Medigap insurance, offered by private insurers, works alongside Original Medicare to cover costs such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. You must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) to purchase a Medigap policy.

However, Medigap does not include:

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans
  • Medicare Part D (prescription coverage)
  • Medicaid, VA benefits, or TRICARE

All Medigap plans follow federal and state regulations, ensuring standardized coverage across insurers meaning Plan G or Plan N provides identical benefits regardless of which company you choose. The difference comes down to pricing, service, and availability.

What Do Medigap Plans Cover?

Medigap policies help pay for many healthcare costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover.

Covered Services

  • Medicare Part A Coinsurance & Hospital Costs: Covers hospital stays beyond Original Medicare’s limits.
  • Medicare Part B Coinsurance or Copayments: Helps pay your share of outpatient services and doctor visits.
  • Blood (First 3 Pints): Pays for the first three pints of blood during a medical procedure.
  • Hospice Care Coinsurance (Part A): Covers hospice care costs under Medicare.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility Coinsurance: Helps cover extended rehabilitation or skilled care.
  • Part A Deductible: Covers inpatient hospital deductibles.
  • Part B Deductible (Some Plans): Helps pay your annual Part B deductible.
  • Part B Excess Charges: Covers amounts above the Medicare-approved limit.
  • Foreign Travel Emergency: Provides coverage for emergency medical care abroad (up to plan limits).

What Medigap Plans Don’t Cover

  • Prescription Drugs (Part D) – requires a separate plan
  • Routine Vision or Dental Care
  • Hearing Aids
  • Long-Term or Custodial Care
  • Eyeglasses
  • Private-Duty Nursing

Understanding what’s covered helps you decide whether a Medigap plan is right for your financial and medical needs.

Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period

Your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period begins on the first day of the month you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. This six-month window is the best time to purchase a Medigap policy because:

  • You cannot be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
  • Insurers cannot charge you higher premiums for medical issues.
  • Coverage starts immediately without underwriting.

If you’re under 65 and eligible for Medicare due to disability, check with your state’s Social Security Administration for additional enrollment opportunities.

Medicare Supplement Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions

While Original Medicare covers most pre-existing conditions, Medigap plans have unique rules.

During the Open Enrollment Period

When you enroll within your six-month window, insurance companies must accept you regardless of health history. They also cannot:

  • Deny your application
  • Increase your premium due to existing conditions
  • Delay your basic benefits

However, some plans may apply up to a six-month waiting period before covering costs related to pre-existing conditions.

Applying After Open Enrollment

If you apply for Medigap coverage after your open enrollment window, your application may go through medical underwriting. This means:

  • You may be required to complete a health questionnaire or physical exam.
  • The insurer can deny coverage or charge a higher premium based on your health.

That’s why enrolling during your initial Medigap Open Enrollment Period is highly recommended to guarantee acceptance and avoid extra costs.

"After working with Elizabeth Snyder, owner of Main Street Financial for approximately 2 years, I wanted to share my experience for anyone considering their services. I have found Elizabeth’s knowledge base of risk vs. benefit in regards to financial planning to be extremely helpful and appreciated her recommendations of varying options for my particular needs to be spot on. Her knowledge base of the market has provided me with confidence for my long-term plan and I feel assured their advice and fiduciary commitment is focused on my best interest and not theirs.  Additionally, I would be amiss to not mention members of her team Bethany and Nancy, who create a strong backbone and presence in the company."
